Writer-director-producer Malcolm D. Lee has been making films since the age of 12 in animation, video and Super-8 film formats. He has been working professionally in the industry since age 17 as a production assistant, apprentice film editor, casting associate, assistant director, and director’s assistant.

Malcolm D. Lee is a writer, director, and producer whose directorial work includes his critically acclaimed feature film debut The Best Man which opened at No. 1 at the box-office, the smash hit Girls Trip with which Lee made history as the first film with a full African-American creative team in front of and behind the camera to surpass the $100 million mark at the domestic box office grossing over $140 million worldwide, and Night School another box office hit grossing over $100 million worldwide. 

One of Hollywood’s most bankable filmmakers, Lee’s upcoming projects include the feature film Space Jam: A New Legacy starring LeBron James, At That Age, a Universal Television pilot created by Lee based on a script Lee co-wrote and will direct, and Peacock’s The Best Man: Final Chapters a 10-part series finale to Lee’s iconic The Best Man franchise.  Through his Blackmaled Productions banner, Lee is currently overseeing several feature and television projects in development including I Almost Forgot About You (Universal Pictures), an adaptation of Terry McMillan’s novel with Viola Davis, The Classic (Universal Pictures), Real Talk (Universal Pictures), Rock the Bells (Fox) and The Spoils (Lionsgate Films).
